π What is IEC?
The Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit unique identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Itβs mandatory for anyone importing or exporting goods or services from India, unless specifically exempted.
Since the introduction of GST, the IEC is now linked to the PAN of the firm, but it still needs to be issued separately by DGFT.
π οΈ Issuance of IEC: Step-by-Step
β Eligibility
Any of the following entities can apply:
- Proprietorship
- Partnership
- LLP
- Private/Public Limited Company
- Trust, HUF, Society
π Required Documents
- PAN card of the entity
- Address proof (electricity bill, rent agreement, etc.)
- Cancelled cheque or bank certificate
- Email ID and mobile number linked to Aadhaar or DSC
π Application Process
- Visit the DGFT IEC Portal
- Register and log in using your PAN and mobile/email
- Fill out the ANF-2A form online
- Upload required documents
- Pay the fee (βΉ500)
- Submit and download your IEC certificate with a QR code
π Modification of IEC
You must update or modify your IEC in the following cases:
- Change in business address
- Change in company name
- Addition/removal of partners/directors
- Change in bank details
- Sectoral updates or RCMC linkage
π Annual Update Requirement
As per Notification No. 58/2015-2020, IEC holders must electronically update their IEC every year between April and June, even if there are no changes. Failure to do so may result in deactivation.
